Architecture and the Arts as a path to Raising Awareness of Great Design

This presentation will illustrate how the project was conceived, how it was fabricated and then shipped to Venice for the opening, held in May of 2016.  Additionally, Dr. Carpenter will also discuss AIA Atlanta’s outreach to the Atlanta Arts community and the creation of “Atlanta Celebrates Design” – a partnership with dozens of allied arts organizations to raise awareness of the intersection of architecture and the arts.  Finally, AIA Atlanta has found fertile ground in engaging the arts community in historic preservation of artistically significant buildings in Atlanta that are facing imminent threats.

Integrated Licensure Pilot Programs in the Southeast

Representatives from North Carolina State, UNC-Charlotte, Clemson, and the Savannah College of Art and Design will discuss how each of their respective programs will approach the integrated path. Topics will cover what this means for students moving through these programs, and how architecture firms can become involved and support this very important experiment.  Proponents argue that it will have numerous benefits, including addressing issues of equity in architecture, helping graduates achieve a higher salary earlier in their careers (addressing student debt), and offering a more rigorous program for students who are mature enough and ambitious enough to pursue it.
